Welcome to our Housing Information page! Here is where you will find information about our house, and how you can join our 'family'.
Martha and Mary House is an older (built in 1961) family residence in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to a small park and shopping center near San Diego, California. We are ten minutes from the hospital where our "daughters" give birth.
We have room for up to four pregnant women and resident house mother and assistant - or house parents. We live as a family - share meals, housekeeping duties, morning and evening prayers and other activities. You will study or work towards your future goals. We have a growing library, and volunteers who can mentor or tutor you in various subjects, arts or crafts. We have a piano - clay for sculpture - yarn for knitting - a journal for you to write. We have a large back yard with room for a vegetable garden and romping space for two dogs and a cat.
There is no age limit, but if you are a minor we require your parent or guardian to sign your application and admission documents. We do have House Rules - you can click on them on this page. Rules help you know what to expect and what is expected of you. Rules are also helpful in developing self- discipline, in setting goals and working towards them. Our goal is to help you define and set yours.
Ours is a Christian extended family household where Christ is the Head. We welcome you, regardless of your ethnic, cultural, religious or social back-ground, and here you will learn something of our faith whether you accept it as you own or not. We attempt to create a household of peace, where you have opportunity to reflect on your present situation - the choices you made that brought you here, and the choices you can make for your own and your child's future. While you are here you will be treated with love and respect as a 'daughter', not a client or resident. We care about you - what you have been through and where you are going. Our God is a merciful God who created you - and your child - in His image and He loves you and cares about every detail of your life. He can heal past wounds and give hope and direction for the future.
Living together as a family requires that each of us respect and care about each other's needs. Learning to love one another is a challenge - and a choice. The next few months will be difficult for you - there will be hard choices and decisions to make. We are here to provide practical emotional and spiritual support.
During our morning and evening prayer we are already praying for you - for all expectant mothers and fathers around the world - and their unborn child. And especially for mothers who are alone and in such desperate circumstances that she is thinking of aborting her child. God knows your pain and your fear. Another prayer is framed on our kitchen wall - "God, teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Thy will governs all. - in unforeseen events let me not forget that all are sent by you..." That means even unforeseen pregnancies. No child is conceived without the will of God Who is forming your child in your womb right now. God means it for good - and if you can believe that - or dare to trust that it is true, then this pregnancy can be a turning point and a new beginning, not just of the life of your unborn baby, but for you as well. We pray that if God wills that you come here for the remainder of your pregnancy, you will come - and we welcome you in Christ's name.
We suggest you click on our Housing Admission document and read it along with the House Rules. Then you may click on the Application Form, fill it out and send it to us.
